Hunger

Recently I was waiting for my father to finish his work so we could go and EAT!! Lol, my father took his God given and precious time and I found myself wondering into one of his MANY libraries and I stumbled upon a book filled with poetry written by African poets and authors and it would be TOTALLY illegal if I didn’t share this piece that I read and COMPLETELY fell in love with. It was love at first sight I tell you! Open the eyes of your understanding and enjoy it, it’s titled Hunger and is written by Ulli Beier.

Hunger by Ulli Beier

Hunger makes a person climb up to the ceiling
And hold on th the rafters.
It makes a person lie down—
But not feel at rest.
It makes a person lie down—
Unable to stand.
It makes a person lie down—
And count the rafters.
When the Moslem is not hungry, he says:
We are forbidden to eat monkey.
When Ibrahim is hungry he eats a baboon!
When hunger beats the woman in the harem,
She will run out into the street in daytime.
One who is hungry does not care for taboos.
One who is hungry does not care for death.
One who is hungry will take
Out of the sacrifice money.
When death shuts the door,
Hunger will open it.
“I have filled my belly yesterday”
Does not concern hunger.
There is no God like one’s throat.
We have to sacrifice daily to it.
